Design context: docs/design/server-split.md + tracking issue seltzerhq/pecun#18 (the code lives here in nic/commons). (design section 12, P2 tier + section 10.5)

The amount/value seam (P6.1) laid the groundwork; this is the payoff:

  • Move the zero-sum invariant from amount to value (transaction currency) + surface
    value/commodity on the wire (single-currency no-op today, so deferred).
  • Price DB / commodity model (GnuCash PriceDB; Beancount price).
  • Multi-currency + FX gains/losses (GnuCash trading accounts / per-commodity balancing).
  • Investment lots & cost basis (Beancount {} + booking methods FIFO/AVERAGE).
